On January 21, 2010, the US Supreme Court ruling of Citizens United v FEC counteracted years of protective legislation responsible for minimizing the effects that corporations can legally have on federal political contests.
The Supreme Court held that the First Amendment right to Freedom of Speech allows for corporations to spend as they please on elections, muting the effects of the American people on the political system by flooding the airwaves with political messages tainted by corporate agendas.
This is insanity, and what’s really frustrating is that the lawmakers that can change the laws can be bought for a song…sometimes as little as a donation of $1000 can buy a lawmaker’s vote…that’s madness - ANOTHER THING WE MUST CHANGE…
